EBRD to Provide Up to US$17.5 Million to TCG for Cable Production Expansion

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) continues to support the development of green energy infrastructure in Uzbekistan and the country’s national decarbonization goals by financing Techno Cable Group (TCG), a company specializing in the production of copper and aluminum electrical cables for power systems and renewable energy projects.

TCG, which manufactures over 3,000 types of cables with various PVC insulation, will receive an EBRD loan of up to US$17.5 million to expand production capacity and ensure working capital.

The funds will be used to purchase specialized equipment and raw materials, increasing copper wire production capacity by 160% and aluminum by 230%. The company also plans to expand its product range and enter international markets, including the European Union.

The project will contribute to the national “Uzbekistan 2030” strategy, which aims to triple domestic copper production, advance industrialization, expand the national energy system, and enhance electrification across the country.

Under the project, TCG, with EBRD support, will embark on digital transformation, optimizing business processes in finance, human resources, logistics, and production, as well as improving accounting practices.

A key priority will be human capital development: the company will implement internship programs for students from two local universities, strengthening the talent pool, improving employment opportunities for young specialists, and laying the foundation for long-term technical skills development in the sector.

Additionally, the project will benefit from EBRD technical cooperation funds for the implementation of an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.

To date, the EBRD has invested nearly €5.33 billion in Uzbekistan across 186 projects, focusing primarily on supporting private enterprise. Uzbekistan has remained the Bank’s leading recipient of financing in Central Asia over the past five years.
