EBRD Provides Up to US$50 Million to Ipak Yuli for MSME Support in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will provide Ipak Yuli Bank with financing of up to US$50 million (€43 million) to support micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Uzbekistan, while also expanding access to “green” financing and promoting environmental innovations.

The package includes two complementary components aimed at accelerating the country’s green transition and strengthening the MSME sector.

An EBRD loan of up to US$15 million (€12.9 million) will be provided under the Uzbekistan Green Economy Financing Facility II (GEFF II Uzbekistan) in synthetic Uzbek sums. This will enable Ipak Yuli to expand lending for energy efficiency projects for businesses and households, allowing them to modernize production, improve energy efficiency, and enhance climate resilience.

The financing is supported by concessional co-financing from the High Impact Partnership for Climate Action (HIPCA), with donors including Austria, Canada, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF), the United Kingdom, and the United States.

The remaining US$35 million (€30.1 million), also provided in synthetic sums, will be used to support MSMEs in Uzbekistan, further strengthening the country’s economic foundation and creating new jobs.

Since beginning operations, the EBRD has invested more than US$6.5 billion in Uzbekistan across 193 projects, primarily supporting private entrepreneurship and contributing to sustainable economic development.
