EBRD Plans to Finance Infrastructure, Digitalization, and Water Management Projects in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 26 September, Uzbekistan’s Minister of Investments, Industry, and Trade, Laziz Kudratov, met with a delegation from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) led by Harry Boyd-Carpenter, Managing Director for the Sustainable Infrastructure Group.
During the talks, it was noted that the current EBRD portfolio in Uzbekistan includes 185 projects and programs totaling €5.8 billion.
The parties discussed prospective initiatives in energy, transport, digitalization, urban infrastructure development, and water management.
Key priorities for further cooperation were identified as the expansion of the non-sovereign project portfolio, with a focus on public-private partnership mechanisms, particularly in socially significant sectors, as well as increasing grant financing for investment projects.
The importance of supporting “soft” components—technical assistance, institutional development, digitalization, and sustainable management—was also emphasized.
