EBRD Invests US$15.4M to Expand UzCarlsberg Production

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is providing financing of up to US$15.4 million to Uzbekistan’s leading beer producer, UzCarlsberg. This marks the Bank’s third equity investment in the company since 2020, aimed at expanding production capacity and enhancing the resilience of the country’s food sector.

The funds will be used to construct a new brewing complex adjacent to the existing site, purchase modern equipment and bottling lines, and expand warehouse capacity.

The project aligns with UzCarlsberg’s investment program, which focuses on increasing production while saving water and energy.

Additionally, the project includes a grant of up to €200,000 under the EBRD Agrifood Nexus program, funded by Germany’s Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection. The grant supports the implementation of sustainable technologies and risk reduction related to climate change adaptation.

To date, EBRD has invested nearly US$6.9 billion in 208 projects in Uzbekistan, primarily supporting private enterprise. Over the past six years, the country has remained the largest recipient of the Bank’s financing in Central Asia.
