Earthquake Strikes Afghanistan, Tremors Felt in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A magnitude 5.7 earthquake has been recorded in Afghanistan. The tremors struck on 25 February 2026, at 16:12:09 local time, with the hypocenter at a depth of 67 kilometers and the epicenter located in Badakhshan province, at coordinates 37.17°N and 71.16°E.
The tremors were also felt on the territory of Uzbekistan. In the Surkhandarya region, the intensity of the quake reached up to 2 points on the seismic scale. The distance from the epicenter to the region is estimated at approximately 343 kilometers.
The epicenter was located approximately 485 kilometers to the southeast of Tashkent. No reports of casualties or damage on Uzbekistan's territory have been received.
