Earthquake of Magnitude 6.8 Strikes Afghanistan, Tremors Felt in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 was recorded today at 01:29 local time in Samangan Province, Afghanistan, according to the Seismological Monitoring Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The epicenter was located about 557 kilometers southwest of Tashkent, with the focal depth estimated at 30 kilometers. The strength of the tremors in the epicentral area reached 7 points on the MSK-64 scale.
Seismic activity was also felt across parts of Uzbekistan. The strongest tremors were observed in Surkhandarya Region, where the intensity reached up to 5 points, while milder shocks of 2–3 points were reported in Tashkent.
Experts noted that no casualties or damage have been reported in the territory of Uzbekistan.
