Earthquake in Tajikistan Felt in Several Regions of Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 struck Tajikistan overnight on 9 January, according to seismological services.

The tremors were recorded at 02:14:18 local time. The epicenter was located in Tajikistan’s Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region at a depth of 139 km, with coordinates of 38.39° north latitude and 73.37° east longitude.

The distance from the epicenter to Tashkent was approximately 477 km to the southeast.

In Uzbekistan, seismic vibrations were felt with an intensity of up to 2–3 points. In Ferghana Region, the intensity reached 2–3 points at a distance of about 260 km from the epicenter, while in the Andijan Region it measured 2 points at 285 km, and in the Namangan Region 2 points at 325 km.

No reports of damage or casualties have been received in Uzbekistan.
