Drug Dealer Detained in Urgut with Nearly 1 kg of Opium
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Officers from the State Security Service Department of Samarkand Region, in cooperation with regional customs and internal affairs authorities, intercepted the sale of a large batch of narcotics in Urgut District.
A previously convicted resident of Urgut, born in 1966, was detained while attempting to sell 993 grams of opium to an undercover buyer for US$15,000.
The investigation established that the narcotic had been smuggled from the territory of the Republic of Tajikistan.
A criminal case has been initiated against the detainee under Articles 28 and 246, Part 2 (smuggling), and Article 273, Part 5 (illegal production, sale, or transportation of narcotics, their analogues, or psychotropic substances) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Preventive detention has been applied, and the specified articles carry a sentence of 10 to 20 years of imprisonment.
