Driver with 144 Fines Carries Traffic Inspector on Car Hood in Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In Tashkent, the driver of a Gentra car carried a traffic inspector on the hood of his vehicle. A video of the incident, which occurred on November 2 on Ferghana Yoli Street in the Yashnabad district of the capital, has gone viral on social media.
According to the Traffic Safety Service, the inspector signaled the driver to stop, but the latter ignored the order and continued driving. The officer caught up with the car and again demanded the driver’s documents. In response, the driver suddenly accelerated, causing the inspector to end up on the car’s hood, where he was carried for several dozen meters before other motorists intervened to stop the violator.
Authorities reported that inspector Otabek Makhmudov was not injured, but his life was in danger during the incident.
The detained driver was identified as a 24-year-old man. Checks revealed that his car had 144 traffic violations, including 38 unpaid fines and 30 cases already forwarded to the enforcement service, with a total debt of more than 18 million soums.
The driver was detained the same day. The Yashnabad District Prosecutor’s Office initiated a criminal case under Article 219 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan — “Resistance to a representative of authority or a person performing a civic duty.” Depending on the court’s ruling, the offender may face a fine, compulsory or corrective labor, or up to three years of restriction or deprivation of liberty.
