Draft Law on the Status of Environmentally Clean Areas Passed in First Reading

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — At a session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, a draft law aimed at establishing the status of environmentally clean areas and regulating the circulation of plastic products was considered in the first reading.

The document is intended to strengthen measures for the protection of natural sites and ecosystems, prevent landscape degradation, and preserve biodiversity.

The draft law proposes a ban on activities in environmentally clean zones that could disrupt ecosystem stability or alter the natural appearance of the territory.

Additionally, it introduces restrictions on the circulation of single-use plastic products, with the exception of items made from natural organic polymers, and establishes standards to reduce the environmental impact of polyethylene bags.

According to deputies, the adoption of the law will contribute to environmental protection, safeguard public health, and support the sustainable development of natural complexes. The draft law was approved in the first reading.
