Domestic and foreign media representatives visit large facilities of the fuel and energy complex in Karakalpakstan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as the international oilfield services company Eriell Group, organized a press tour for foreign and domestic media to familiarize themselves with the activities of the petrochemical and electric power industries in Uzbekistan.
Foreign media, including publications such as Chatham House, Argus Media, Nuclear Intelligence, Energy Intelligence, Upstream, World Nuclear News, IntelliNews, Trend news Agency, first visited the Surgil gas field and the Ustursky gas-chemical complex of Uz-Kor-Gaz LLC Chemical. "
Journalists were able to see the gas field, the process of its production, collection, distribution and processing. And also get acquainted with the gas-chemical complex located in the northwestern part of Uzbekistan, in the southern part of the Ustyurt plateau (Republic of Karakalpakstan).
The Surgilskoye gas field was first put into operation in 1998, exploration and drilling of wells were carried out by enterprises of Uzbekneftegaz JSC. In 2006, a memorandum on the comprehensive development of the Surgil field was signed between JSC Uzbekneftegaz and the Korea Gas Corporation Korea Gas Corporation. In 2013, the active phase of the construction of the Uzbek-Korean joint venture Uz-Kor Gas Chemical began, the complex was built in 3 years, 3 months ahead of schedule. In 2013, the joint venture LLC Uz-Kor Gas Chemical, after taking control, announced a tender in the framework of the decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the construction of the Ustyurt Gas Chemical Complex on the basis of the Surgil deposit with the development of the deposit. As part of the tender, two contracts for the construction and overhaul of wells were signed.
During the drilling period from 2013 to 2015, 35 wells were mastered. In the period from 2016 to the present, another 50 wells have been mastered. The length of one well is 2950 meters. Work to this day is carried out day and night without stopping.
Since September 2015, all products coming from gas wells have been supplied to the Ustyurt Gas Chemical Complex, which was built by Uzbekneftegaz JSC and Uz-Kor Gas Chemical JV LLC. This complex consists of 5 plants: a gas separation plant; ethylene plant; polyethylene production plant; polypropylene plant; energy supply plant. The main equipment is manufactured by leading German, French, Japanese, American, Swedish, Dutch and Korean manufacturers.
If we talk about the production capacity of the enterprise, the indicators per year are as follows:
- annual production and transportation of more than 3.0 billion cubic meters of natural gas from the Surgipl field;
- annual production, preliminary preparation and transportation of more than 115 thousand tons of gas condensate from the Surgipl field;
- deep processing with the extraction of valuable components at the Ustyurt Gas Chemical Complex.
The total annual production capacity of the complex is:
- 387 thousand tons of polyethylene;
- 83 thousand tons of polypropylene;
- 102 thousand tons of pyrolysis distillate
- 8 thousand tons of pyrolysis oil (which is sent to the Bukhara oil refinery for further processing and production).
Today, the produced polymer products are exported to the countries of Central and East Asia, the CIS and Europe, as well as to the domestic market through the UZEX trading platform.
Speaking about the socio-economic benefits, it must be said that more than 1,480 jobs were created, as well as the creation of indirect employment in the corresponding support services. The existing infrastructure was improved with respect to:
- drinking water supply systems;
- reliable power supply;
- transport infrastructure (roads, railways);
- construction of social infrastructures (schools, hospitals, kindergarten, etc.)
To create comfortable living conditions for employees of the complex, a new residential village was built. To date, 140 cottages have been built, 3 dormitories for 144 people, a market has been built. The construction of a kindergarten, school, modern clinic and the further development of the infrastructure of the residential village are envisaged.
Due to vigorous successful activity over many years, the availability of qualified personnel and infrastructure, in 2012 the project was recognized as the best project and financial agreement in the petrochemical and gas chemical sectors by the international publication Project Finance International. The project was awarded with the International Best Deal of 2012 Prizes by Trade Finance Magazine and Global Trade Review. In 2014, the project was awarded the prize “Global deal of 2014 in the oil and gas sector” by the international publication Infrastucture Journal.
