Documents Signed for Construction of Uzbekistan’s First Integrated Nuclear Power Plant
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During the ongoing World Nuclear Week in Moscow, two strategically important documents were signed for the construction of Uzbekistan’s first nuclear power plant, the press service of Uzatom reports.
The first agreement is a Supplementary Agreement on the main terms for implementing the integrated nuclear power plant project in the Republic of Uzbekistan, linked to the June 20, 2025 agreement between Rosatom Energy Projects JSC and the State Enterprise “Directorate for NPP Construction.” The document defines the project configuration, which includes both small and large nuclear power plants based on two VVER-1000 Generation 3+ reactors and two RITM-200N reactors.
The second signed document is an Agreement on the main terms of contracts for the supply of nuclear fuel for the small and large nuclear power plants, concluded between Rosatom Energy Projects JSC and the State Enterprise “Directorate for NPP Construction.” This agreement formalizes key arrangements for the supply of nuclear fuel for the RITM-200N and VVER-1000 reactors, as well as related components, installation, and control equipment.
Uzatom Director Azim Akhmedkhadjayev emphasized that the NPP being built in the Jizzakh region will be an unprecedented energy project for the region: “We are the first in Central Asia to create an innovative solution for the future. The project combines advanced small modular reactor technology with time-tested solutions from large-scale nuclear energy.”
Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachyov noted that the signing marks a new phase of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Russia in peaceful nuclear energy: “Uzbekistan will become the first country in the world where a modern small-scale nuclear power plant and a large-scale station will operate simultaneously on a single site.”
