Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- One of the most prestigious universities in the world in the field of engineering and physical sciences - National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (NRNU MEPhI) - spoke about the first year of the branch in Tashkent and announced the recruitment of applicants for a new academic year. This year, the reception of documents takes place remotely.

A year ago, the only foreign branch of NRNU MEPhI, which opened in Tashkent, accepted 100 students to the first year. According to the university’s leadership, the assessment of first-year students’ performance showed that every fifth student at the NRNU MEPhI branch in Tashkent can confidently perform at republican and international physics Olympiads.

Despite epidemiological limitations, students have successfully adapted to classes online and are now passing exams for the first year. New conditions also affected the work of the university selection committee. This year, documents for four undergraduate specialties are accepted on the university website until 2 July.

“MEPhI is known for preparing not only the strongest specialists gaining worldwide recognition, but also creating an environment aimed at achieving results and continuous development. The curriculum at NRNU MEPhI is the same in all branches, including a branch in Tashkent. All our graduates will receive a standard diploma from NRNU MEPhI, which is recognized as a document on higher education in the Republic of Uzbekistan. In addition, graduates will be guaranteed employment by the distribution of the Uzatom Agency. As for the recruitment for the new academic year, like the other branches of NRNU MEPhI, we accept applicants according to the exam results, if the applicant has them, as well as the results of entrance exams. The difference of this year’s recruitment is that applicants can submit documents remotely,” says Alisher Sanetullaev, Executive Director of the NRNU MEPhI branch in Tashkent.

This year the selection committee expects an increase in the competition for a study place. Last year, 6-7 candidates fought for one place, depending on their specialty. The interest in engineering specialties is also indicated by the increased number of schoolchildren participating this year at the Rosatom International Industrial Physics and Mathematics Olympiad. As a result of the Olympiad, 29 students from Uzbekistan received the right to study at the NRNU MEPhI in Moscow.

The university admissions committee announced that students will be admitted according to the results of exams in mathematics, physics and the Russian language. The first hundred applicants with the highest scores will be trained at the Tashkent branch of NRNU MEPhI on the basis of a state grant.

According to students, passing an examination is the first step towards a promising future.

According to international estimates, the combination of the principles of education and scientific research, as well as more than 75 years of history, provides NRNU MEPhI with a leading position in the training of personnel in engineering and physical specialties. The university is included in the top 100 best universities in the world, takes 30th place in the ranking of BRICS universities, 8th place in the Eurasian rating and 1st place according to student reviews and demand among Russian engineering universities.
