Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - Today, doctors from more than 100 countries and regions of the world, including Uzbekistan, are making efforts in the fight against coronavirus. Doctors from the Republic of Korea talked about the experience of their country and assessed the ongoing efforts of Uzbekistan.
Yoo Byung-Wook, Director of the International Health Center, Sun Jong Young University Hospital in Seoul:
- Today, the countries of the world are fighting with the coronavirus, which has become a challenge for all of humanity. You know that the health care system in each country has its own differences and characteristics. In accordance with this, the quarantine mode applies.
Many hospitals and medical facilities in South Korea are fighting coronavirus and other infectious diseases. Upon receipt of a patient with suspicious symptoms, we are required to conduct all necessary studies and laboratory tests.
Now in our country, where a large number of people live in a relatively small area, it is possible to control the spread of Covid-19 coronavirus infection using special measures taken by the government and health authorities.
At the very beginning, due to the influx of people into hospitals, the situation was quite complicated, it was very difficult to cope. Now the situation has changed, we can say we have taken control of it. Therefore, I believe that such measures as quarantine, a regime of self-isolation and maintaining social distance, taken in Uzbekistan are very relevant and timely in the fight against the spread of coronavirus. Considering the fact that the incubation period of Covid-19 is 2 weeks, and the symptoms may not appear during this time, it is quarantine and social distance that will help protect the population from mass infection.
The Republic of Korea and Uzbekistan will collaborate on the construction of new infectious diseases hospitals and quarantine measures. I hope that together we will overcome these difficult times. The leadership of Uzbekistan is taking confident steps to protect the population from the spread of Covid-19, including taking into account international experience. In particular, I want to note that an international expert was invited to Uzbekistan from South Korea to coordinate activities to combat coronavirus and exchange practical experience from Uzbekistan.
John Linton, Head of International, Severance Hospital, Yonsei University:
- Despite the fact that the South Korean government was initially a little late in preventing the spread of the Covid-19 virus, it was nevertheless able to very quickly mobilize its efforts. The country’s disease control and prevention centers have vast experience gained during the fight against the MERS epidemic. Therefore, they did a good job of prophylactic testing of people and the identification of people infected with the virus, their separation and isolation.
The Republic of Korea was the first country to carry out mass screening for coronavirus. This has become a key factor in controlling the situation. I think it is for this reason that our country was able to achieve success.
It should be noted that at first the inhabitants of the country expressed dissatisfaction, however, over time, the population began to follow the recommendations of the government. I think this was another reason for success in the fight against coronavirus.
Uzbekistan has also taken very decisive quarantine measures. This is an absolutely necessary step. I believe that the country’s leadership is taking scientifically correct and medically sound steps. This is the surest way to control the situation with the virus.
