Discussion in Tashkent Focuses on Improving Food Safety Legislation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 23 September 2025, a seminar was held in Tashkent dedicated to aligning Uzbekistan’s food safety regulatory framework with the international standards of the Codex Alimentarius.

The event brought together food safety experts, representatives of government agencies, and international organizations. The discussions centered on risk assessment, the adoption of international food safety principles, and strengthening Uzbekistan’s role in the work of Codex Alimentarius committees.

According to Alfiya Musina, Executive Director of the Uzbekistan Association of Soft Drink and Juice Producers (UzBev), adopting Codex principles will elevate the country’s regulatory system to a new level: “The Codex Alimentarius is a universal international standard recognized in more than 180 countries. Its integration into national legislation will enhance trust in products made in Uzbekistan, safeguard public health, and at the same time strengthen the export potential of domestic producers,” the expert noted.

The seminar also presented practical recommendations on implementing risk assessment tools, strengthening interagency cooperation, and expanding Uzbekistan’s participation in the work of international specialized committees.

The organizers emphasized that the development of the national food safety system is closely linked to strengthening the country’s position in the global market and opens new opportunities for exporting Uzbek agricultural and processed products.
