Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Oman’s Minister of Heritage and Tourism, Sayyid Ibrahim al-Busaidi, announced the launch of direct flights between Muscat and Tashkent starting from 1 June, according to the Dunyо news agency.

The announcement was made during a meeting with Uzbekistan’s ambassador to the Sultanate, Abdusalom Khatamov. The discussion focused on prospects for cooperation in tourism, including strengthening ties between tour operators, increasing mutual tourist flows, and promoting the cultural heritage of both countries.

Al-Busaidi noted that the number of tourists from Oman visiting Uzbekistan has increased in recent years. The introduction of regular air services between the capitals is expected to further stimulate this growth. The minister also expressed readiness to support a presentation of Uzbekistan’s tourism potential in Muscat and endorsed initiatives for reciprocal photo exhibitions.

Previously, in April 2025, Oman Air received permission to operate regular flights on the Muscat–Tashkent–Muscat route, using Boeing 737 aircraft. During subsequent negotiations, the aviation authorities of both countries signed an updated agreement allowing up to 50 weekly flights.

Agreements were also reached to implement an “open sky” regime at Samarkand and Salalah airports and provide additional freedoms for cargo carriers.

Visa facilitation has further supported tourism development. Since July 2024, Uzbek citizens can stay in Oman for up to 14 days visa-free or obtain a visa on arrival. In turn, on the instructions of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the visa-free stay for citizens of Oman, Bahrain, and Kuwait in Uzbekistan was extended to 30 days.

The launch of direct flights is expected to significantly strengthen transport connectivity and expand tourism exchanges between Uzbekistan and Oman.
