Development partners ready to support Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade, as the official coordinator of external assistance programs and cooperation with development partners, held an expanded video conference in the framework of the “Country Platform”, in which more than 40 representatives of international financial institutions, UN organizations, government agencies for international cooperation of the USA, Turkey, Korea, Japan, as well as the countries of the European Union took part.

The participants of the event praised the effectiveness of the Anti-Crisis Program, approved by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On measures to attract external assistance funds to support the population, budget, basic infrastructure and business entities during the coronavirus pandemic.”

The agenda of the videoconference included issues related to assessing the economic consequences of the coronavirus pandemic, as well as mechanisms to support measures taken by the Government of Uzbekistan to mitigate the negative impact of global crisis on the population and economy of the Republic.

Development partners noted the approach of the Government of Uzbekistan to the operational mobilization and use of external assistance to address a wide range of socio-economic issues, organized and coordinated with all partners.

An example is the use of accelerated approaches to the procurement of medical equipment and products using global platforms of UN organizations. This approach allows you to ensure maximum effectiveness of partner support, eliminate duplication and guarantee transparency of procurement.

Representatives of development partner organizations, including the Asian Development Bank, World Bank, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, Islamic Development Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, European Investment Bank, OPEC Fund, UN, French Development Agency, Japan International Cooperation Agency, The German Development Bank, the United States Agency for International Development, the Turkish Agency for Cooperation and Coordination, expressed their readiness to provide comprehensive support in an early liquidation and consequences of the events in Bukhara and Syrdarya regions.

This assistance will be provided in the form of grants, loans, humanitarian assistance and technical assistance.
