Detainee Dies in Pre-Trial Detention Facility in Samarkand Region

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A detainee, H.K., born in 1991, passed away at Pre-Trial Detention Facility No. 7 in the Kattakurgan District of Samarkand Region.

The incident occurred on 21 February 2026, at approximately 17:35, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan reported.

According to official information, the accused, who was under investigation under Articles 168, Part 3 “b” and 28, 211, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan, was taken to a medical facility in Kattakurgan due to a sudden deterioration in health. H.K. arrived at the hospital around 18:00, where medical staff confirmed his death.

Preliminary forensic examination indicated that the cause of death was severe complications from type 2 diabetes.

No signs of violent death were found on the body.

Earlier, on February 18, H.K. had received treatment at the Kattakurgan City Medical Association. His brother was notified of the hospitalization and arranged an additional visit to the hospital.

After receiving medical care on 20 February, doctors assessed the detainee’s condition as satisfactory and returned him to the pre-trial detention facility.

The circumstances of his death are being further investigated by the Kattakurgan District Prosecutor’s Office.
