Deputy Director of “Kumir Ta’minot” Detained in Namangan Region for Bribery and Fraud
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Law enforcement authorities in the Namangan region have detained the deputy director of the regional branch of “Kumir Ta’minot” on suspicion of fraud and accepting a bribe, the State Security Service (SSS) reported.
According to the investigation, the deputy director demanded US$40,000 to facilitate the appointment of a citizen as the head of a coal warehouse and to increase coal supply volumes through additional freight cars.
In early December, the suspect received US$25,000 via a branch employee, securing the appointment. He later demanded the remaining US$15,000, as well as an additional US$7,500 as his share for dispatching 30 coal wagons.
Both the branch employee and the deputy director were detained while receiving the funds. A criminal case has been initiated under Articles 168 (fraud) and 211 (bribery) of the Criminal Code.
