Deputies Review Law on Compensation for Citizens Harmed by Officials’ Mistakes
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 19 August, at a plenary session, deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis considered a draft law on compensation for damages caused to citizens by state bodies or their officials, the press service of parliament reported.
The document addresses losses arising from unlawful decisions or violations of citizens’ rights. In such cases, material or moral damages will be compensated on the basis of a court ruling.
At the first stage, payments will be made from regional compensation funds, after which all expenses will be fully recovered from the responsible official. This means that a civil servant who makes a mistake will not be able to hide behind the state — liability will be imposed personally on them.
The system is designed to curb abuses at the state’s expense, strengthen personal accountability of officials, and ensure genuine protection of citizens’ rights.
In addition, Uzbekistan plans to address the problem of ineffective business trips by government employees: the effectiveness of each trip will be evaluated in terms of its benefit to the organization’s work.
