The Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Combating human trafficking” indicates that victims of human trafficking are exempt from civil, administrative and criminal liability for acts committed under duress or threat, in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Uzbekistan. But, in the current legislation there are no legal mechanisms for implementing this norm.
The draft law was developed by the Prosecutor General’s Office in accordance with the decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On measures to further improve the system of crime prevention and combating crime” from 14 March 2017 and addresses the gap.
MPs noted that the document is important to guarantee and protect human rights.
