World number 49 Denis Istomin played against Michael Russell of the United States.
The fifth seeded Denis Istomin defeated his American opponent with the score 7/6 (9/7) and 7/6 (7/4).
In the quarterfinal match, Istomin will face Fernando Verdasco of Spain.
