Democratic public administration reforms in Uzbekistan discussed
The conference discussed the essence and significance of on-going reforms following amendments to the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, made in 2011 and 2014 on the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan. These amendments are designed to create an effective and functional checks and balances system, and to further improve public administration in the country.
National and international experts contributed to the event, with presentations dedicated to the constitutional development of Uzbekistan, USA, Germany, Switzerland, Singapore and other countries. The presentations also discussed the formation and development of parliamentary system within the democratisation of state building in Uzbekistan.
The participants also widely discussed the issues related to the implementation of the concept of the separation of powers, best international practices on public services reform and enhancing the quality of public services provision, and deepening the role of civil society institutes in conducting regulatory reforms.
The constructive discussion and comments of the experts and scholars, their feedbacks to the raised questions following each presentation allowed comprehensively unveil the topic of the conference.
The conference was organised by the Institute for Monitoring of Current Legislation under the President of Uzbekistan, the Senate and Legislative Chambers of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and the United Nations Development Programme in Uzbekistan.
Moreover, the event was attended by members of the Senate and deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, representatives of ministries and agencies, academia, as well as experts of the National Democratic Institute (USA), Konrad Adenauer Foundation (Germany), UNDP’s Global Centre for Public Service Excellence (Singapore) and European Risk Forum (Switzerland).
