The Alliance of Civilizations was initiated in 2005 and currently the "Group of Friends" includes 130 states and 17 international organizations supporting the Alliance’s goals.
In his speech at the meeting, Abdulaziz Kamilov briefed the participants of the meeting with the main provisions of the speech of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the UN General Assembly on 19 September, the press service of the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said.
In particular, it was noted that use of mainly force to counter terrorist threats does not justify itself.
In this regard, it was stressed that the most important task is to fight for the minds of people, especially young people. Uzbek Foreign Ministry said that Uzbek President proposed to develop the UN International Convention on the Rights of Youth, which will be aimed at forming and implementing youth policy in the context of globalization and rapid development of information and communication technologies.
The participants were also informed about importance attached by the Uzbek side to bringing to the wide world community the truly humanistic essence of Islam. It was said that in order to preserve and study its rich heritage, disseminate its teachings on enlightened Islam, it was decided to establish an International Research Center named after Imam Bukhari in Samarkand, which will also contribute to the activities of the Center for Islamic Civilization, which is established in Tashkent.
In this regard, the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan on adoption of a special resolution of the General Assembly “Education and Religious Tolerance” was voiced.
