The delegation held negotiations with Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade, Portuguese Industrial Association – Chamber of Commerce and Indystry, and Tourism Council of Portugal, Jahon news agency reported.
In line with the agreement on partnership and cooperation between Uzbekistan and the European Union, signed in 1996, the states established the most favourable trade regime. The inter-governmental agreements on cooperation in air transport and tourism, signed in 1996, and agreement on cooperation between Human Rights Commissioner of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan and Provedor of Justice of Portugal (Ombudsman), signed in 2010, deepened the Uzbek- Portuguese relations.
The meetings in Lisbon were directed at further deepening the Uzbek-Portuguese cooperation in investment, trade, scientific-technical and humanitarian cooperation.
Uzbekistan currently exports transport services and vehicles, cotton-fibre, and leather to Portugal and imports textile, knitted products, footwear, timber and products from them, electric equipment and spare parts for automobiles from Portugal.
The sides underlined that despite achieved level of partnership relations, there are reserves for improving efficiency of interaction of many areas. The parties noted that the priority directions of cooperation are interaction in investment and increasing bilateral trade.
During the negotiations, the Uzbek delegation presented information on social-economic development of Uzbekistan, created investment climate and perspectives of cooperation in various areas of economy, including at free industrial and economic zone Navoi, special industrial zones Angren and Jizzakh.
Representatives of two states determined implementation of joint infrastructure projects in tourism, which is one of key sources of income of Portuguese budgets. Annually at least 10 million tourists visit the country.
