Delegation of Uzbekistan attends international summit on population and development

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - A delegation of Uzbekistan led by the chairman of the Senate Committee of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on science, education, culture and sports Zainiddin Nizamkhodjaev took part in the summit on the 25th anniversary of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) ) in the city of Nairobi (Kenya), the press service of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis reports.

The high-level forum, organized by the Governments of Kenya and Denmark, together with the United Nations Population Fund, was aimed at demonstrating political will and mobilizing financial resources for the full implementation of the ICPD Plan of Action. The summit was attended by delegations of 179 states.

The main topics of discussion were issues such as universal access to reproductive health and rights as part of universal health coverage, ensuring sufficient funding to achieve the ICPD goals, using demographic diversity to stimulate economic growth and achieve sustainable development in the world, and preventing violence against girls and women, ensuring reproductive health care in the humanitarian situation and in conflict zones.

The members of the delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan in their speeches informed the world community about the work carried out in our country in these areas. It was noted that in Uzbekistan, under the leadership of President Sh.M. Mirziyoyev, on the basis of the Strategy for the Further Development of the Country for a five-year period, large-scale reforms are being carried out to radically improve the quality of life of the population and achieve a higher level of progress. At the same time, the main goal is political and economic modernization, building a democratic state and a fair society, ensuring human rights and interests.

An important step in this direction was the adoption in 2019 of laws aimed at protecting the reproductive health of citizens and ensuring gender equality. It is planned to fully integrate the basic reproductive health measures for all citizens into the universal health coverage package. Work is continuing to introduce comprehensive education in schools on healthy lifestyles in schools so that adolescents have enough knowledge to make informed choices about their reproductive health.

During the conference, an exchange of views on issues of gender equality, reproductive health, motherhood and childhood and other topics of the program of the international conference took place.
