Delegation of Tashkent city administration visits St. Petersburg

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Days of Tashkent will be held on 1-2 November in the cultural capital of Russia - St. Petersburg. In this regard, a delegation of the Tashkent khokimiyat is now visiting the city.

Today the delegation visited the St. Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics (ITMO). This was reported by the press service of the Tashkent city administration.

The meeting discussed issues of cooperation between ITMO and the University of Information Technologies of Uzbekistan. Tashkent Deputy Khokim Elbek Shukurov spoke about the education sector of Uzbekistan, technical universities of the Uzbek capital, and information technologies. The St. Petersburg side, in turn, presented the strengths of its University.

“Our main goal is to establish cooperation specifically with Uzbekistan, to make it more active,” said Irina Kim, Head of the International Cooperation Department of the ITMO University. - We hold international competitions in mathematics and computer science, for the selection of talented young people around the world. The Olympics cover about 3-4 thousand schoolchildren, many schoolchildren from Uzbekistan take part in them and are among the winners and prize-winners of the Olympiads. ”

At the meeting, it was noted that the winners of the Olympiad are entitled to free education at ITMO University. This year, four graduates of Uzbek schools received a quota for free education.

“In addition, we want to establish cooperation with the University of Information Technologies of Uzbekistan in the field of sports programming to prepare teams for the finals of the World Programming Championship, as well as for summer schools and short-term training,” Irina Kim said.

Also, today in the delegation’s program there is a visit to the Committee on Youth Policy and Interaction with NGOs. And tomorrow, the official opening ceremony of the Days of Tashkent in St. Petersburg will be held at the Lenexpo exhibition complex.
