Delegation of Russian Federation Council visits Committee on religious affairs

The chairperson of the Committee on religious affairs Ortiq Yusupov briefed the delegation on religious affairs in Uzbekistan and faith freedom in the country.

It was underlined that 2,200 religious organizations of 16 religions operate in Uzbekistan. It was underlined that there are Islamic religious educational institutions in the country.

Ilyas Umahanov said that citizens of Russia and Central Asian states are fighting for Islamic State in Syria and Iraq. He said it is necessary to consolidate efforts of international community to fight religious extremism and exchange experience on inter-religious tolerance.

Ilyas Umahanov handed over Russian translation of Quran to Ortiq Yusupov.
