Delegation of Romania received at the Senate

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 31 October 2018, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on International Relations, Foreign Economic Relations, Foreign Investments and Tourism Alisher Kurmanov met with a delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania headed by the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Danut Sebastian Neculaescu.

During the meeting, the sides discussed bilateral relations, including the development of bilateral inter-parliamentary relations, as well as prospects for cooperation in the Uzbekistan-European Union format, taking into account the forthcoming Romania’s chairmanship in the European Union in 2019.

It was noted that Uzbekistan and Romania are linked by partnerships based on mutually beneficial cooperation in the political, economic and cultural spheres. In particular, the contractual and legal framework of bilateral relations consists of 14 documents of an interstate, intergovernmental and interdepartmental nature. The ongoing development of interstate relations ensures the desire of both states to further deepen the constructive dialogue.

The members of the delegation were informed about the work carried out in our country in the framework of the implementation of the Action Strategy for the Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2017-2021, in particular, to deepen relations with the EU countries. It was noted that in Romania they are observing with interest the successful political and socio-economic development of Uzbekistan and note with satisfaction the profound democratic transformations being carried out in the country.

During the meeting, the parties also discussed the expansion of cooperation through the implementation of bilateral projects in various fields, long-term cooperation in the development of small and medium-sized businesses, agriculture, industry, tourism, transport, science and technology. It was noted that in the future it is necessary to pay more attention to the organization and holding of joint events, participation in exhibitions and fairs held in both countries.

The parties emphasized the significant role of parliamentary diplomacy in the development of mutually beneficial cooperation. In this regard, it was noted the need to intensify the dialogue in this direction and exchange visits of parliamentary delegations.
