Data Governance in Uzbekistan: Experts Present Proposals to Improve Information Management
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A seminar on “Analysis and Development of Information Management (Data Governance) in Uzbekistan” was held in the capital, organized jointly with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the European Union, the Ministry of Justice, and the Ministry of Digitalization of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The event brought together representatives of government bodies, the private sector, civil society institutions, higher education institutions, and international organizations.
Agenda and Key Topics
Participants discussed the current state of the national information management system, existing challenges, and prospects for development. Particular attention was given to:
principles of information governance in line with UNDP’s Data Governance methodology;
gaps in legislation, including provisions on personal data protection;
the role of government institutions and businesses in data exchange;
the development of technological infrastructure and digital services.
Opening remarks were delivered by Deputy Minister of Justice Nomon Mukhammadiev, EU Ambassador to Uzbekistan Toivo Klaar, Deputy Minister of Digitalization, and UNDP Resident Representative in Uzbekistan Anas Fayyad Qarman.
During the working sessions, participants developed practical proposals aimed at ensuring information quality and security, improving public services, and strengthening openness and transparency in public administration.
As a result, analytical recommendations were produced for the further development of the national information management system, enhancing the effectiveness of digital reforms, and building a modern information ecosystem that will support the country’s sustainable development.
