Customs officers reveal 508 attempts of smuggling of agriculture products

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Customs officers of Uzbekistan revealed 508 attempts of illegal movement of about 800 tonnes of agriculture products in past period of 2013.

According to the State Customs Committee of Uzbekistan, total cost of these products made up over 1.8 billion soums.

The committee said that the Government of Uzbekistan adopted a resolution on 3 December 2012, which created optimal conditions for production of fruits, vegetables, potato, melons and grape, as well as their processing.

The resolution created a working group on rational use of fruits and vegetables, potato, melons and grape, as well as their processing within the country and their exports.

One of the main tasks of the working group is to consider issues related to organization of transportation, allocation of wagons and refrigerators, customs registration of goods, etc.

However, there are people, who attempt illegally smuggle agriculture products. The committee said that customs officials prevented 508 attempts to smuggle 800 tonnes of agriculture products with total cost of 1.8 billion soums.

The committee underlined that main part of smuggling were recorded in Ferghana Valley, Karakalpakstan and Tashkent region.
