Criminal liability has been established for the dissemination of knowingly false information about an infectious disease

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the Law “On amendments and additions to the Criminal, Criminal Procedure Codes and the Code of Administrative Responsibility”.

In accordance with the Law, in order to prevent the spread of unjustified panic among the population regarding the spread of quarantine and other infections dangerous to humans, ensuring public order, as well as creating conditions for the normal functioning of the responsible authorities the Criminal Code is supplemented by article 244-5.

According to this, the dissemination of false information about the spread of quarantine and other infections dangerous to humans in the context of the emergence and spread of quarantine and other infections dangerous to humans is punished:

  • a fine of up to 200 BEV (44 million 600 thousand soums);
  • compulsory community service up to 300 hours;
  • correctional labor up to 2 years.

The dissemination of this information in printed or otherwise reproduced text or in the media, as well as the worldwide Internet, is punishable by:

  • a fine from 200 (44 million 600 thousand soums) to 400 (89 million 200 thousand soums);
  • obligatory community service from 300 to 360 hours;
  • correctional labor from 2 to 3 years;
  • restriction of liberty up to 3 years;
  • imprisonment up to 3 years.

The law comes into force from the day of its official publication.
