Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – The importance of studying human rights in the field of higher education, international experience in this direction and the relationship with the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals were discussed at a meeting held on 27 November in Tashkent with the participation of representatives of OHCHR.
At the meeting, in particular, the experience of the Russian master’s program in human rights was presented. It was developed and implemented as part of the cooperation of the UN Office for Human Rights in Russia with the law schools of this country.
Participants in Tashkent meeting also discussed the possibility of creating an inter-university master’s program in human rights in Uzbekistan.
The meeting was initiated by the Academy of the General Prosecutor’s Office and the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan together with the UN Office for Human Rights in Central Asia.
Participants in the discussion were representatives of all law schools and faculties of the city of Tashkent - the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, Tashkent State Law University, Westminster University in Tashkent, as well as the Higher School of Judges, the Academy of the General Prosecutor’s Office and the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, relevant ministries and departments of Uzbekistan.
Representatives of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) from the Regional Office for Central Asia and the Office in the Russian Federation also attended.
As the first deputy director of the National Center for Human Rights Mirzatillo Tillabaev noted during the discussion, from the first years of its activity, the Center has promoted human rights education at various levels - from school to master. An important role is also played by education in this area of specialists in government agencies, such a project is also being implemented by the Center. And the importance of the best international experience in these areas is undeniable.
The meeting noted the relationship between the promotion of human rights education and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, the achievement of which has been an obligation of the Republic of Uzbekistan since September 2015.
