Court Upholds Detention of Driver Who Attacked Traffic Police in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —  The Tashkent City Court has confirmed the legality of the arrest of citizen B.P., born in 1990, who was detained in connection with an attack on law enforcement officers.

The appeal filed by the defendant’s lawyer was rejected, and the decision of the Yashnabad District Court was признано lawful. Under Article 497-34 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Uzbekistan, the ruling issued by the appellate instance is final.

The case was initiated following an incident in Tashkent, where an intoxicated driver of a Malibu vehicle attacked traffic police inspectors.

The incident attracted widespread public attention after it was revealed that the offender is a relative of a serving employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The ministry’s leadership described the situation as a possible abuse of official position and the use of authority for personal interests.

Following an internal review, Lieutenant Colonel Sherzod Pardaev, who was found to have allowed such a situation to occur, was dismissed from his position.

His dismissal was publicly cited as an example of the inevitability of accountability for violations of the rule of law within the internal affairs system.

The incident was also reviewed separately in the Syrdarya region, where a meeting on service discipline and legality was held under the leadership of Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Diyorbek Sattarov.

Participants criticized the insufficient effectiveness of preventive measures, the lack of a systematic approach to combating offenses, and the improper performance of duties by certain officials.

Following the meeting, instructions were issued to the leadership to eliminate identified shortcomings and strengthen control over discipline.
