Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Several cases of corruption among employees of tax and executive authorities have been identified and suppressed in various regions of Uzbekistan, the National Anti-Corruption Committee reported in cooperation with law enforcement agencies.

In the Syrdarya region, on 7 November, the chief inspector of the Tax Department in Syrdarya District was detained while receiving a bribe of US$1,500. A criminal case has been opened against him under Articles 210, Part 2, clauses “b” and “g” of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and he has been placed under arrest.

In the Andijan region, a tax inspector demanded US$500 to lift a freeze on a bank account belonging to a company installing solar panels, despite identified violations in the company’s activities. In the Samarkand region, a state enforcement officer of the city department promised, through intermediaries, to cancel an enforcement order for the recovery of 117.8 million soums from a debtor and lift the vehicle ban for US$500. He was detained while receiving the payment. A criminal case has been opened under Articles 25, 168 Part 3, clause “b,” 28, and 211 Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan, and investigative actions are ongoing.
