Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The project to build the Tashkent–Samarkand toll highway is in its final preparation stage, Deputy Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan Jasurbek Choriev told Spot on the sidelines of the third roundtable on public–private partnership.

According to him, the winner of the PPP project has been virtually determined, but the contract has not yet been signed.

The name of the winning company has not been disclosed. The deputy minister confirmed that construction is expected to start in early 2026.

Earlier, in August 2025, Minister of Transport Ilhom Makhkamov announced that the tender had been completed and that negotiations with the winner would begin. Despite this, the signing of the contract and the start of construction have been postponed to next year.

The presidential press service noted that companies from several countries expressed interest in the project.

The tender details and the name of the winner have not been made public.

Under the public–private partnership development program approved by the president in August 2024, the preliminary cost of the Tashkent–Samarkand toll highway is estimated at US$2.2 billion.

As part of the financial strategy for 2026–2028, plans also include the construction of toll roads from Tashkent to Samarkand and Andijan.
