Construction of Silkway Logistics Center Begins in Tashkent Region
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 15 November 2025, the construction of the first phase of the multi-purpose Silkway Central Asia logistics center officially began in the Tashkent region.
The ceremonial launch of the project was held via an Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan telebridge, attended by President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The project is being implemented by the joint venture SILKWAY Central Asia, established by PTC Holding and JSC “Uzbekiston Temir Yo’llari.”
The new center will be located on a 159.4-hectare site in the Yangiyul district and is set to become a key element of the Middle Corridor infrastructure, providing significant opportunities for international logistics and cargo transit.
The first phase of construction will create modern container, warehouse, and terminal infrastructure. The project includes the construction of 28.4 kilometers of railway tracks connecting the hub with Kazakhstan, the Ferghana Valley, and the Samarkand direction.
The total area of container yards will be 172,000 square meters, while A and B class warehouses will cover 167,000 square meters, including refrigerated and chemical storage facilities. The plan also includes an industrial zone, a trade and exhibition center of up to 18,700 square meters, a road bridge for access to the site, a future railway overpass, and the reconstruction of high-voltage power lines and underground pipelines. By 2035, the center’s throughput is projected to reach up to three million tons of cargo per year.
Daniyar Abulgazin, shareholder of PTC Holding, noted that the transition of the project into the construction phase is a significant milestone, enabling the implementation of the joint infrastructure strategy of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan based on previously reached agreements.
Construction work is progressing according to the approved schedule: the road bridge across the Dzhun canal is being erected, the access road to the future terminal is being formed, and the installation of the perimeter fencing is nearing completion.
Once operational, the hub will create approximately 700 jobs, enhancing the socio-economic impact of the project and expanding business opportunities in the Yangiyul district. Abulgazin emphasized that the project will promote sustainable regional development and generate long-term opportunities for professional employment and entrepreneurship.
The start of construction continues the agreements reached by the presidents of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in December 2022, formalized in intergovernmental documents. In the following years, project design, engineering, and organizational work was completed, enabling the practical implementation of this large-scale logistics center.
