Construction Materials Production in Uzbekistan Quadruples Over Eight Years
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The construction materials industry, one of the driving sectors of Uzbekistan’s economy, has experienced rapid growth in recent years. As a result of ongoing reforms, key performance indicators in the sector have increased three to fourfold.
In 2017, the industry comprised around 6,000 enterprises; today, that number has grown to 11,000.
Production of construction materials rose from 11.4 trillion soums in 2017 to 47.1 trillion soums in 2024. Exports also saw significant growth, increasing from US$71 million in 2017 to US$831 million in 2024. In the first eight months of 2025 alone, exports totaled US$675.4 million. In 2024, investment projects in the sector amounted to US$2.2 billion.
Major investments have supported the establishment of enterprises producing new types of energy-efficient materials. Leading regions in the adoption of these productions include Fergana, Navoiy, Tashkent, Jizzakh, Namangan, and the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
Under the localization program, the “UzSanoatQurilishMateriallari” Association has focused on the production of import-substituting products. Production of porcelain stoneware, autoclaved aerated concrete, high-grade cement, thermal insulation panels, electrodes, and paint and coating materials has been established.
From 2017 to 2024, projects totaling US$10.8 billion were implemented, enabling full domestic supply for certain construction materials. For example, the country now has 15 large-scale ceramic tile enterprises with a combined capacity of 73.2 million sq. m per year, exceeding domestic demand of 46 million sq. m. This capacity has allowed Uzbekistan to enter foreign markets, with ceramic tile exports reaching US$43.3 million this year.
Domestic demand for basalt slabs has also been fully met. Between 2017 and 2025, seven major enterprises with a total capacity of 275,000 tons per year were launched. Key production facilities are located in Jizzakh, Surkhandarya, Navoiy, Andijan regions, and Karakalpakstan. In 2024, domestic demand was 107,000 tons, and efforts are now focused on expanding exports. Basalt slabs have been incorporated into urban planning standards and play an important role in improving building energy efficiency.
A similar trend is observed in the autoclaved aerated concrete segment. As of September 2025, twelve enterprises operate in Uzbekistan with a total capacity of 3.48 million cubic meters. The use of this material helps preserve fertile soil layers and enhance energy efficiency in construction.
Today, all multi-story residential buildings in Uzbekistan are constructed using aerated concrete, which provides thermal and sound insulation and is in demand not only domestically but also in regional markets.
Overall, the construction materials sector in Uzbekistan has demonstrated dynamic development over a short period, fully meeting domestic demand while achieving export potential with products that comply with modern quality and energy efficiency standards.
