Compensation of 1.5 Billion Soums Set for Bozsu Canal Pollution; Criminal Case Initiated
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In Tashkent region, a compensation of 1.5 billion soums has been established for the pollution of the Bozsu Canal. Earlier, reports on social media about the discharge of wastewater into the canal were confirmed by an expert examination.
Laboratory analysis of the first discharge from the Bozsu aeration station revealed significant exceedances of permissible limits: suspended solids exceeded the norm by 23.7 times, ammonium ions by 101.9 times, nitrogen nitrites by 3.5 times, sulfates by 2.3 times, phosphates by 1.3 times, BOD by 19.6 times, petroleum products by 2.52 times, copper by 4.16 times, and iron by 12.4 times.
Analysis of the station’s third discharge showed similar violations: suspended solids by 22.1 times, ammonium ions by 19.9 times, nitrogen nitrites by 8.5 times, sulfates by 2.8 times, phosphates by 1.3 times, BOD by 17 times, petroleum products by 1.78 times, copper by 3.3 times, and iron by 3.6 times.
During the preliminary investigation, an additional compensation for environmental damage and wastewater discharge was calculated at 1,511,966,450 soums.
On this basis, the General Prosecutor’s Office has initiated a criminal case against JSC “Toshkent Suv Ta’minoti” under Articles 205 and 207 of the Criminal Code. The investigation is being conducted by the Tashkent city prosecutor’s office.
