Representatives of parliament, ministries and departments, NGOs and international organizations participated at the roundtable.
It was noted that Uzbekistan is a member of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and Kyoto Protocol and works on implementation of the UNFCCC goals.
The Government created favourable conditions and legislative frameowor in this area and adopted measures to prevent and adapt to climate change, improve knowledge of population on climate change, introduction of new technologies.
Uzbekistan set corresponding national agencies, which are responsible to implementation conventions of the UN on environment.
Climate change is a global problem, which impacts to all spheres of human life and requires to adapt measures to mitigate negative impacts of the climate change to adapt to it through coordinated inter-departmental cooperation at national level and international integration.
Uzbekistan adopts measures directed at preventing climate change through decreasing greenhouse emission in various sectors. Currently, Uzbekistan registered 20 Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects and they are implemented now. The projects help to cut 6 million tonnes of CO2 emission a year. The Uzbek enterprises are introducing new technologies and modernizing their capacities.
The country also directed at realizing several programmes directed at raising irrigation system efficiency, water saving and decreasing water consumption through introduction of effective agriculture approaches.
Currently, international organizations and international development banks are implementing 57 projects in various areas of economy directed at raising energy efficiency and introducing renewable sources of the energy, decreasing water deficit, etc.
Uzbekistan develops and submits national reports on climate changes within the implementation of the liabilities of the country within the UNFCCC. Currently, Uzbekistan works on development of the third report, which will reflects efforts of the country in this directions and its proposals to national climate programmes.
During the event, the participants considered these and other issues related to environment protection and climate change.
