Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - The President of Uzbekistan signed the Law “On Citizenship of the Republic of Uzbekistan”.

In accordance with the Law, a person who arrived and was permanently registered on the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan until 1 January 1995, did not accept the citizenship of a foreign state and lived before the entry into force of this Law on the basis of a residence permit in the Republic of Uzbekistan for a stateless person, upon expression of desire recognized as a citizen of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The law defines the status, main tasks and powers of the Commission on Citizenship under the President.

In particular, the Commission considers applications on the issue of citizenship of the Republic of Uzbekistan, makes proposals to the President on these issues.

According to the Law, interdepartmental electronic interaction will be formed on issues of consideration of citizenship of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

This Law shall enter into force 6 months after the date of its official publication.

Some articles and clauses of the Law come into force on 1 April 2020.
