CITIC Construction to Reconstruct Pungon–Namangan Road Section for US$246 Million

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Chinese company CITIC Construction has launched the reconstruction of a 75-kilometer section of the Pungon–Namangan highway. The project is valued at US$246 million, Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan Ilkhom Makhkamov told Uzbekiston 24 TV channel.

According to him, the current stretch of the Ferghana Ring Road 4R 112, consisting of just two lanes, has become one of the most problematic highways in the region. “This is one of the most difficult roads in the Ferghana Valley, it causes major traffic congestion and increases accident risks,” the minister emphasized.

Makhkamov noted that construction has already begun, following a special instruction from President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to ensure both high quality and timely completion. At a meeting on 16 September, the head of state reminded that about 15,000 vehicles use this route daily, underlining its strategic importance as it links Namangan with Tashkent.

The project envisions widening the road to four lanes with concrete pavement. Along the route, 34 bridges and 22 pedestrian crossings will be constructed.

The Namangan regional administration specified that the project is being implemented under the F+EPC model (financing, engineering, procurement, and construction). Once completed, the road’s capacity will increase fourfold, reducing accidents and providing safer and more comfortable conditions for residents, businesses, and tourists.
