CITES Secretary-General Arrives in Samarkand
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The first foreign delegates began arriving in Samarkand to participate in the 20th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES COP20). Among the earliest to arrive in the historic city was CITES Secretary-General Ivonne Higuero.
The distinguished guest was welcomed at Samarkand International Airport by the First Deputy Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Obidjon Kudratov.
Only a few days remain before the opening of CITES COP20.
Preparations are currently being finalized for the large-scale international forum, which will bring together representatives from government agencies, the private sector, international organizations, and the scientific community from 167 countries.
The upcoming event is expected to mark a significant step in strengthening global cooperation in nature conservation, as well as to facilitate the development of coordinated decisions aimed at preserving biodiversity and ensuring the sustainable use of natural resources.
