CIS Prepares Calendar Plan for Championships and Cups in 2026
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 19 November, an online meeting of the Working Group on the Organization of CIS Championships, Competitions, and Cups in Various Sports was held, the press service of the CIS Executive Committee reported.
Representatives from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, as well as the CIS Executive Committee, participated in the discussions.
The participants reviewed the preparation of a draft Calendar Plan for sporting events within the Commonwealth for 2026. This work is being conducted under an initiative to organize international sports tournaments between the CIS Games, which are held once every two years.
The idea, developed to strengthen sports cooperation, has quickly proven its relevance: competitions in various sports have already secured a firm place in the annual calendars of the CIS member states.
The legal framework for implementing the project was established by the decision of the CIS Council of Heads of Government on October 26, 2023, which approved the Regulations on CIS Championships, Competitions, and Cups. The document defines the objectives, tasks, and procedures for organizing and conducting competitions, ensuring a unified approach across the member states.
For practical coordination, a specialized Working Group was created under the Council on Physical Culture and Sports of the CIS member states. One of its key tasks is the formation of an annual Calendar Plan for competitions.
The number of tournaments has been increasing each year: while the 2024 Calendar included 10 competitions, 26 championships were planned for 2025.
Preliminary data indicate that in 2026, the number may exceed 60, reflecting the growing interest of CIS countries in expanding sports cooperation and developing both mass and professional sports.
CIS championships, competitions, and cups have already become firmly established among the region’s major international sporting events, contributing to strengthening friendship, exchanging experience, and raising the level of athletic training.
