Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 30 June 2020, the 86th meeting of the Economic Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States took place, which was first held remotely in the form of video conference. The agenda of the meeting included issues covering various areas of economic cooperation of the CIS member states.
The heads of delegations of the Commonwealth countries exchanged views on the socio-economic situation of the CIS member states and possible collective measures to minimize the negative consequences caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The CIS Economic Council approved and introduced for consideration by the Council of Heads of Government a Decision on financial support for the activities of the bodies of the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2020, an Action Plan for the implementation of the Strategy for ensuring transport security in the territories of the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States when carrying out international traffic for the period 2020− 2025, and also approved the Action Plan for the implementation of the Concept of cooperation of the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States in the field of combating cancer for 2020-2024.
Questions were discussed about the need to prepare an Action Plan for the implementation of the first stage (2021-2025) of the CIS Economic Development Strategy until 2030, taking into account the COVID-19 pandemic, the implementation in 2019 of the CIS Interstate Innovative Cooperation Program for the period up to 2020, and A set of measures for 2017–2020 on its implementation, information on the implementation of decisions of the Economic Council of the Commonwealth, a review of the business climate, benefits for investors, free economic zones, industrial and scientific and technical parks of the CIS member states.
The meeting participants also discussed organizational issues, in particular, the issue of holding the next 87th meeting of the CIS Economic Council on 11 September 2020 in Tashkent.
Following the meeting, the participants decided to continue economic cooperation, also within the framework of the Economic Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
