CIMMYT Research Center Office to be Opened in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan and the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) have agreed to open an official office of the global research organization in the country.
The initiative is expected to expand the application of scientific approaches in agriculture, accelerate the adoption of innovative solutions, and enhance food security.
CIMMYT is among the world’s leading research centers, specializing in high-yield, disease-resistant, and climate-resilient varieties of wheat and maize. Its work focuses on strengthening agricultural resilience, advancing modern agrotechnologies, and ensuring global food security.
The agreement follows an official visit by an Uzbek delegation to Mexico, led by Shukhrat Otazhonov, Director of the Seed Development Center. During the meetings, the parties discussed expanding scientific cooperation, conducting joint research, and implementing best practices.
A memorandum was signed to deepen collaboration, including the development of innovative solutions, technology transfer, and training of skilled specialists.
The opening of the CIMMYT office in Uzbekistan and the implementation of these agreements are expected to enhance wheat breeding, improve the seed production system, increase the efficiency of the agricultural sector, and elevate international scientific collaboration to a new level.
