Chinese Embassy Donates Around 800 Books to Human Rights House in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 2 February, a presentation was held at the Human Rights House in Tashkent for books by President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping, including On Governance, On Respecting and Protecting Human Rights, and Poverty Alleviation, published in Uzbek.

The event was organized by the National Center of Uzbekistan for Human Rights in cooperation with the Embassy of China in Uzbekistan.

Attendees included Yu Jun, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Uzbekistan; representatives of the Alisher Navoi National Library and regional information and library centers; the Institute of State and Law of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan; the Notarial Chamber; members of academic and scientific circles; media representatives; staff of the National Center; and doctoral students. The event was held in both offline and online formats.

Opening the meeting, academician Akmal Saidov, Director of the National Center of Uzbekistan for Human Rights, highlighted that under the President’s initiative, the goal has been set to increase the average number of books read per person to 10 per year during 2026–2030, aiming to foster a culture of reading and strengthen the intellectual potential of society.

It was noted that, in accordance with the Presidential decree of 15 January 2026, “reading corners” will be established in all ministries and agencies, a monthly “reading hour” will be introduced, and a system to incentivize the most avid readers among employees will be implemented.

During the event, Ambassador Yu Jun discussed the content and significance of the books, emphasizing their role in presenting China’s conceptual approaches to governance, human rights, and socio-economic development. He expressed gratitude to the National Center for organizing the presentation.

As part of the event, the Chinese Embassy donated around 800 books to the Human Rights House. Participants highlighted their importance as authoritative sources that contribute to scientific exchange, strengthen intergovernmental dialogue, and promote humanitarian cooperation between Uzbekistan and China.

It was also noted that a significant portion of the publications in Uzbek opens new opportunities for their use in educational and scientific work.

At the conclusion of the event, 350 books were transferred to the National Library of Uzbekistan, with staff receiving corresponding certificates.
