Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At a regular meeting of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis on 18 February 2020, deputies, along with numerous draft laws regarding the country’s socio-political, economic life, discussed the draft law “On ratification of the Charter of the Hague Conference on Private International Law (The Hague, on 31 October 1951).”
As noted, the Hague Conference was established in 1983, its permanent office is located in the city of The Hague and is the oldest intergovernmental organization. The main goal of the organization is to promote the gradual unification of international private law.
To date, 82 countries, as well as the European Union, are members of the organization. From the CIS countries, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia are signees of the charter.
The Hague Conference operates on the basis of the Charter, which entered into force on 15 July 1955.
During the discussions at the meeting, issues related to the ratification of the Charter of this organization did not go unnoticed.
According to parliamentarians, membership in the organization will ensure the country’s participation in the unification of international, civil, family and private law, the further development of the legal system, taking into account world standards, increasing the effectiveness of protecting the rights and interests of citizens of the state abroad.
By entering the organization’s Council, it will be possible to determine the work program of the conference.
Also, this will contribute to deepening the country’s further integration into the international community, accelerating the implementation of modern standards in the field of law and taking into account the development trends of international civil, family and commercial law.
At the same time, access to technical assistance will be provided as part of the implementation of the conventions. In addition, the opportunity will expand to take part in negotiations on new conventions that are under consideration by the organization and to promote their interests in the international arena.
After heated discussions, the draft law "On Ratification of the Charter of the Hague Conference on Private International Law (The Hague, on 31 October 1951)" was adopted.
