The point of chaos theory: even the most minor drawback or lack, which wasn’t removed before starting work, will rapidly grow and ruin the whole project.
How often have you had to deal with error decisions, which weren’t taken care of before starting the project?
If you did it at least once, then you already know that to fix any errors in the course of work is much more difficult than do it in advance. This refers to such things as the web development, the launch of the new project or market launch of the brand new product.
Weakness that had seemed nothing more than a trifle begins to increase rapidly during operation. It becomes more and more affects more and more aspects of the project, until it becomes the cornerstone - a key problem that ruins the work of the whole project. To solve this problem you will have to spend several times more resources than if you’d take care of it in advance.
It is important to remember that when you start any project, before starting of work, it is important to identify and remove all possible problem points, or at least develop a plan of how to compensate for those that can’t be eliminated.
What if someone offers you to join already running project, which was developed and prepared without you?
First, it is vitally important to understand the details of the preparation of the project, to find out how were established the certain key decisions and turning points of the project. It is possible that you are being offered a work in which the lion's share of your time and energy you will have to spend in correcting errors made by others.
But the worst case scenario would be if you’ve got involved in project, launched with a lot of critical mistakes, that your employer doesn’t want to correct, referring to the many good reasons.
In this case, you should ask yourself: "what will turn it for me participation in such a project after all?"
If you are offered participation in such a project that has had a significant number of poor decisions made before your involvement, if the employer refuses to listen to your recommendations, to correct and compensate such decisions - you should seriously think about if you need such a job at all.
Remember: any error is much easier to fix before work than during it.
