Chairperson of the Uzbek Senate Discusses Cooperation with the UN on Sustainable Development and Gender Equality

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Tanzila Narbayeva, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, held a meeting with Sabina Mahl, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan.

During the discussion, the parties reviewed the wide-ranging reforms underway in Uzbekistan aimed at building a democratic, lawful, and socially oriented state, as well as the country’s efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and strengthen the social protection system.

They exchanged views on expanding practical cooperation between the Senate of the Oliy Majlis and UN structures, including promoting joint programs and initiatives to ensure gender equality, support women, and enhance their political, social, and economic participation.

Particular attention was given to plans for joint events within the framework of the Asian Women’s Forum, the Dialogue of Women Leaders from Central Asian countries, and sessions of the UN Commission on the Status of Women.

Prospects for collaboration were also discussed regarding the improvement of mechanisms for implementing the Sustainable Development Goals at national and regional levels, institutional development of local Kengashes, and the training and methodological support of deputies.

The meeting concluded with a number of agreements on further deepening cooperation.
